RE: Unusual tire wear

If it is truly a flat spot as known to tire people, then the tire was locked up & dragged a distance. This will cause wear at the spot in question, the center of the spot will have shallower tread than elsewhere on the tire. But if the tread is the same depth in the center of the flat spot as it is on the rest of the tire you have a belt shape issue. That can be caused by the tire having sat in the same place for a long time allowing the belt package to lose it's round shape. The tire in this case gets flat on the part that sat against the ground too long. Either way it's bad, you ought to get it off your vehicle.

RE: Goodyear SRA Tires?

SR-A's are very mild (read quiet)tread car-like tires, even in the truck sizes. They came as OE on my 02 Rear drive Durango. Wore em out quick, like 30K miles. After that I went to Toyo's because they are better for winter and carry a higher weight, mileage and performance rating (HR)in the size that vehicle needs.

RE: Weight Distrubuting hitch with heavy payload in truck

If it was me I'd set it up with the weight of the Seadoo in there, and also set it without the extra bed weight. That way he knows how to set the WD for each load type. It's only a one or two link difference I bet.

RE: A few more Winterizing questions

The plug on mine is 13/16ths or 7/8th's.

RE: Dometic refrig

I had to have my fridge adjusted when it was new, turns out the gas was not set up correctly. Mine worked well on electricity too. Is this a recent problem? Or has it always worked this way?

RE: Rust stain on trailer axle near brakes

I agree, there is probably some unpainted metal under the grommet or inside on the enclosed side of your backing plate where you cannot see. That rusted when it got wet. It won't cause you a problem. Those brakes are designed to withstand lots of wet use.

RE: Mirror Extentions

If you never find them come back on here and report back. Maybe some entrepeneur will make extensions for you. Could become a prototype for a future product.

RE: Bolt pattern for Keystone Trailer

Center bore is the diameter of the center hole, not bolt circle. Bolt circle is measured differently. Most 6 lugs you will see are the same standard circle.

RE: Gate glove

Maybe get one of those brush style full width mudflaps. It would keep down rocks and dirt, it would also protect the lower front of the trailer.

RE: Flat Towing a 1999 GMC Sierra Pickup

Mebbe ask the experts at the dinghy towing forum. I'll bet someone has done it, or has figured out the "why's" versus "why not's". If you opt to do it you'll need to have remote brake control for the pickup from the DP as a minimum.

RE: electric brakes

My hubs weep a little grease and dirt sticks there, maybe that's what you see. Drum brakes make dust but it either stays in the drum or falls out at the inside edge of the drum. Are your lug nuts tight? It's important to keep an eye on your nuts.

RE: Need new tires. My brain hurts

Were your trailer wheels stamped or marked to hold that much pressure? I didn't think there was a steel wheel available in 15" that was rated for that much pressure. I dropped my RV at the dealer for the body repair today. Also took some measurements in the wheel wells to see if 16" wheel will fit or not. The closest point is the top of the wheel to the floor. The clearance is 3.5 inches. the 225/75/15 is 28.2 in diameter and the bfg 225/75/16 is 29.4 in diameter, so my math says that it will be 0.6 inches closer to the floor than it is now. ? Which I think will work. One way I can think of to check is to attach a block of wood to the floor of the trailer and go for a drive with the current tires and see if they rub. I'm still have not made a decision what I want to do yet. Whether LT or ST. I think either way I'll have to buy new rims. Right on the Carlisle website it says the LR - E 15" tires require heavy duty rims. You are right about the increase in diameter being 1.2" causing .6 less distance to the fender. This also needs consideration so you keep the front and rear tires treads far enough apart. Minimum allowable is 1".

RE: RV Newbie with some questions re: hitches

You are so smart to think ahead on this. I also am a little tall and my shower is 2" shorter than I am. I take part of my shower sitting on the seat in there. If you decide to go TT, which I have and am happy with, learn about weight distribution hitches from the sticky posts. Once I had that down, voila, perfect towing. The best hitches are WD with integrated anti-sway, my vote is for the Reese you see in my signature. I don't know how much special shop space you'd need for your canine activities, but with a toy hauler you'd get some open space you could set up your own way. Sounds like fun!

RE: Another EXTERNAL Generator Question: Use Gas Siphon Pump?

But how do you avoid the CEL that results from opening the gas cap without a fill-up..?? You won't get a check engine light on the vehicle from which you are siphoning unless you are running the engine with the fuel cap open. The vehicle system checks for a seal to keep emissions out of the atmosphere, and all your fuel in the tank. So have both engines off during the fueling. That's a good safety measure anyway.

RE: Tire wear

if the tire wear is on both the inside and the outside around the tire it is either under inflated or over loaded... either condition is the same thing... I`m sorry, I must respectfully disagree. I obviously can`t check the pressure in my tires while I`m actually rolling down the road. But, if I check them EVERY morning before I pull out with an accurate gage and maintain the pressure at a consistant acceptable pressure for the load I`m carrying(63-65 psi), and I also have actual weights from a certified scale which verify I`m under my max weight loading by 500 lbs or so per tire, then I feel I`ve done everything I can to ensure optimum tire performance. If you further consider the huge amount of mileage spent traveling a relatively straight line compared to the time spent in a hard turn, which might cause the wear we are debating, it becomes clear to me that something else is probably causing the condition that a lot of use are having. In addition to parallelism, I`m going to have them take a close look at my thrust angle because it was the only measurement I could see that may be causing ALL the tires to wear like this. Mosseater, Your size tire can handle 2540 at 65PSI, your trailer has a GVWR of 10,000. Are you saying you scale at around 8160? That would surprise me. But if true are all 4 wearing the same uneven way? If it's only 1 or 2 there may be more weight on one side of your trailer than the other. Good luck, that is weird.

RE: Goodyear Marathon Blowout - why I like these tires...

Hey Eric dump those blackwalls and get some outline white letter Marathons. Put some neon lights under the camper and hit cruise night at the burger joint! But more seriously, don't fret about Chinese production, everything that's not high tech is going to be made in China the way we are headed. If the Chinese products fail the company that made them will have to make good, that's business.

RE: WD Hitch Question

The replacement clips are designed to be "popped" in but one must pull the clip out to get the bar to release. I too lost one, but thankfully it was in my own yard! Easiest and cheapest repair I've done.

RE: cleaning the grill at campground

I just clean the grate by heating it up,then spray with some highly pure H2O then quick hit it with the brass brush. Gets down to the bronze looking finish easily. Then I remove the grates to cool, remove and clean up the catch tray, and wipe the inside of the cooker bottom. Top never looks bad. Weber has some instructions but I think they have some different process. Try to Google Weber's site for more.

RE: Simple Green on the roof?

I used simple green and a medium brush, then rinsed it off well. No problem with slipping. The roof was level, and I walk on ice all winter.
